TSP NOTES from Completed Quality Assurance Reviews as of 12/4/06
The Good:
- Great job of thoroughness with soil sampling, and mapping that show soil
sample “zones”
- NRCS job sheets for Nutrient and Pest Management utilized…remember that
our 595 job sheet is a Pest Mgmt Plan!
- PLAT completed when necessary and noted on Job sheet when not needed
- WIN-PST scenarios completed for as a part of Pest Mgmt plans
- Nutrient Mgmt plans correspond to levels of nutrients (P & K)
recommended by Soil Tests
The Not-So-Good
- High levels of starter P recommended on certain crops, and not included
in nutrient mgmt plan nutrient balance. Starter P recommendations should be
in keeping with NCSU Extension fact sheet, and nutrient amounts reflected in
Nutrient Mgmt plan
- Nutrient and Pest Mgmt plans not completed until AFTER crop planting
season, some in mid growing season….hard to producer to follow a plan he
doesn’t have..
- One of the objectives of our 595 standard is to limit use of pesticides
to the extent possible…part of meeting this objective is developing an IPM
strategy—IPM strategies on some Pest Mgmt plans are very limited in scope
and in detail
- Scouting completed, but results not provided as part of practice
certification (should they be???)
- Nutrient and pest mgmt certified as completed, but no application
records are provided (should they be??)
