Rocky River Watershed

General Description

The total estimated area in the watershed is 924,100 acres. This watershed is located in Anson, Cabarrus, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and Union Counties in the Piedmont of North Carolina

The land uses in this watershed consist of cropland, forestland, pastureland, and developed areas. Around Charlotte, the watershed area is predominantly in the Piedmont Coastal Slate Belt resource area. The topography is gently to moderately rolling.

There are about 2,380 farms covering about 330,000 acres. The average size farm is about 100 acres. Primary crops include soybeans, corn, and some tobacco. 
The watershed also has a fairly heavy cattle productive record. Cattle numbers average 12,200 cow/calf pairs per county in the watershed.

Corn is a typical crop in the Rocky River Watershed.
